When punter Tory Taylor was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 2024 NFL Draft, his classmate, quarterback Caleb Williams, who was the No. 1 overall pick sent him a text message saying that he wouldn't be punting often for the team.
That text message had not aged well, especially during Williams' rookie season, where punting was frequent. But in Sunday's 23-12 win over the New York Jets, the Bears went a full game without punting.
According to Brad Biggs, the Bears didn't punt in a game for the first time since 2014, against the Green Bay Packers, and it's only the fourth time in the Super Bowl era in which they went a full game without having to punt.
A few players on the Bears defense discussed how they felt bored during the offensive dominance
that they displayed in the Week 4 win, and Taylor more than likely felt a similar feeling. It is also a bit ironic that the last time the Bears went a full game without punting was against Green Bay, which is Chicago's upcoming opponent in Week 5, and it would be quite the feat if they could pull it off two games in a row.
