Week 2 went wrong in every possible way for the Chicago Bears. The offense was flat and only managed to put up three points. Starting quarterback Caleb Williams suffered a Grade 2 hamstring injury, causing Chicago to go into their first prime-time game with a third-string quarterback who had not started a game in over 1,000 days.
That did not matter for the Bears going against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Quarterback Case Keenum had three touchdowns and Chicago’s defense forced three turnovers including an interception from linebacker T.J. Edwards in a 27-7 victory.
Edwards discussed how this win displayed the Bears’ ability to respond to any adversity that comes their way and how head coach Ben Johnson establishes that standard.
“Our
standards for how we operate, whether it’s a win or a loss, it doesn’t really change,” Edwards said. “We come in here, we go to work, we correct what we need to…I know it sounds whatever, but it’s just a day-to-day thing that [Ben Johnson] has kind of instilled in this team.”
Chicago will be looking to build off this victory with their Week 4 matchup against the New York Jets. The Jets actually only have one turnover so far this season although their offense has struggled in the run game and their top running back, Breece Hall, most likely will not be available for this game. This could be an interesting challenge for the Bears’ defense, although Chicago has not lost to New York at home since 1997.
