Through four weeks of the 2026 season, the Chicago Bears possess what is undeniable one of the best offensive line groups in the NFL. Right guard Jonah Jackson, in his second year with the team, has been a massive part of that status, and Ben Johnson knows it.
Speaking about the early performance of the interior offensive lineman, Johnson praised Jackson for his play and leadership he brings to the offensive line group.
“Jonah’s playing high-level football right now,” Johnson said. “He’s consistently graded as the top or right at the top of our offensive line for these first four weeks. Was really pleased with what he put on tape a year ago and he’s off to a hot start right now. [He’s a] big part of that room. I know his demeanor, his voice, carries
a ton of weight. And I know we wouldn’t have the success we’ve had so far this year without his level of play.”
Acquired from the Los Angeles Rams upon Johnson's arrival in Chicago, Jackson has been part of a near-immediate turnaround for the front five on offense. After grading out as the 19th-best guard, per Pro Football Focus, last season (71.4), he's off to an even better start in 2026. His 84.8 overall grade ranks sixth out of 74 guards, with a run block grade that sits ninth (79.2) and a pass block mark that checks in at the fourth spot (82.5) among that group. That latter number is particularly notable, as pass blocking was a shortcoming of Jackson's from a grade standpoint in 2025, with this year's number indicating roughly a 20-point jump from last season.
Additionally, not only does Jackson have yet to allow a sack or register a penalty, but the Bears have found a ton of success in running the ball his direction. They have a +0.15 EPA per play and are averaging 4.3 yards per carry when running the ball toward the right guard spot.
Factor in the intangible qualities that Johnson notes, and it's clear that Jackson is every bit as responsible for the offensive line's current standing among their peers as any of the more lauded names among the group.
