The Chicago Bears made a splash when they traded a pair of first-round picks for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, who had an immediate impact in the team's 34-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Now, Chicago might be looking to upgrade another position on defense.
According to ESPN insider Dan Graziano
, the Bears are "still poking around on potentially available cornerbacks" ahead of next week's Nov. 10 trade deadline.Chicago has been dealing with injuries in the secondary dating back to training camp, where safety Coby Bryant suffered a knee injury expected to keep him out for most of this season. But cornerback has been a bigger concern. Fourth-round rookie Malik Muhammad has been the team's best cover corner with former All-Pro Jaylon Johnson
and Tyrique Stevenson struggling mightily.
There have been a couple of names floated around about potential targets for the Bears, including Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Riq Woolen, New York Jets cornerback Nahshon Wright and Tennessee Titans cornerback Alontae Taylor.
After the Simmons trade, Taylor would make a lot of sense for the Chicago, especially given the relationship between Bears GM Ryan Poles and Titans GM Mike Borgonzi. Meanwhile, Wright had a career year with Chicago last year, and given he hasn't seen a single snap for the Jets this season, it likely wouldn't cost to bring the former Pro Bowler back.
