The Chicago Bears were dominant on offense in their Week 4 win over the New York Jets. Not so much on the scoreboard, with a 23-12 win, but the stat sheet was the biggest tell all, especially in time of possession.
Chicago's offense held the ball for 42:45 of total game time, meaning the Jets held the ball for less than 18 minutes in a very poor offensive showing that made life easy on the Bears
defense. After the game, running back Kyle Monangai, who had a season-high 146 rushing yards and managed most of the workload on the ground, said the offensive control and dominance felt obvious. When asked how it felt to have that much time of possession, Monangai told reporters it felt exactly how it looked.
"It felt like we had the ball for more than
40 minutes," Monangai said with a smile.
If it wasn't for the smile on his face, Monangai could've meant the tiredness of the offense for being out there for so long, but instead, it was just a very successful day for all avenues on that side of the ball.
This is the second game of the season in which the Bears have rushed for more than 230 yards as a team, which has become a major part of Ben Johnson's identity since he took over as head coach in Chicago. The Bears now head to Green Bay to take on the Packers, who have allowed the fourth most rushing yards on the season, and give up over 26 points per game.
