The Chicago Bears and quarterback Caleb Williams head into their Week 2 game against the Minnesota Vikings offense with the league's most productive offense (from a variety of indicators) through the 2026 season's first week.
While it'd be unreasonable to expect a full-on repeat in the upcoming week, it's also fair to wonder how much of an actual fall off we'd see in a follow-up to their 59-point outburst in Carolina last week given the buzz that already existed around that side of the ball coming into the year.
With that said, Minnesota presents a new challenge for the Bears. Not only do they have a more sustained track record on the defensive side, they have an elite coordinator in Brian Flores. Williams, however, appears ready to confront the challenge of
such a unit.
“As a competitor, these weeks are super tough and that’s the phase we’re in right now," he said. "This week is not fun, but once you get to game day and get some reps after watching film and to be able to compete. Their scheme is one of a kind and as a competitor, it gets us going a bit and it’s exciting and we have a challenge ahead of us.”
Hearing the Bears' quarterback speak in this manner about a challenging defensive matchup certainly presents a level of confidence that indicates an expectation of continued offensive success. Williams also spoke on the mindset required in facing a Flores-led defense.
“Part of it is knowing how their defense is and Brian Flores is a mental war," Williams said. "Bad things can happen and you have to fight back, so making sure he doesn’t get into your mind. Now it’s time to make plays and completions. It’s a big challenge and we’ll see how it turns out Sunday.”
We didn't see the Bears deal with a ton of adversity in Carolina in Week 1, but what they did face, they faced early and overcame. It sounds like Williams and the offense are ready to handle it should it manifest at a higher frequency in Week 2.
