Chicago Bears quarterback Case Keenum had not started an NFL game since 2023 before starting in Chicago’s Monday night game against the Philadelphia Eagles. After just one game, he already has more passing touchdowns than New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.
Maye has not played well since the first half of New England's season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. However, after losing his top receiver A.J. Brown early in the second half, Maye has not been able to do much and has not thrown a touchdown.
On the other hand, Keenum had himself a night against the Eagles with three total touchdowns -- two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown, his first since 2019. His 41-yard passing touchdown to Kalif Raymond was Keenum’s longest touchdown since 2019.
Keenum finished the game completing 24 of 34 passes for 247 yards with a quarterback rating of 110.8. That is more passing yards and a higher quarterback rating than Maye has had in either of his first three games this year. Keenum also was not sacked in this game while Maye was sacked three times in each of his games.
Keenum also added a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter, which gives him one more rushing score than Eagles running back Saquon Barkley this season.
Keenum’s performance against the Eagles raises serious questions about who is going to start Chicago’s next game against the New York Jets if Caleb Williams is unable to play. While Tyson Bagent may have started the season as QB2, it is hard to put Keenum back on the bench after this game.
