With the Lions' 2026-27 regular season opener looming, Fox Sports has named Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs as its fan-voted Preseason Offensive Player of the Year winner.
The 2023 first-round pick out of Alabama is coming off another incredible year where he ran for 1,223 yards and 13 touchdowns on 243 rushing attempts, while also recording 616 receiving yards and five scores on 77 receptions in 17 games played. In total, the three-time Pro Bowler has racked up 3,580 rushing yards, 1,449 receiving yards, and 49 total touchdowns in his first three seasons.

Recently signing a massive three-year, $67.5
million contract extension with the Lions, Gibbs enters the 2026 season as one of the most electrifying running backs in the league. While the Lions' running back depth is a bit of a mystery with backup running back Isiah Pacheco starting the season on injured reserve, a significant amount of the team's rushing attack will be highly dependent on Gibbs' ability to produce at his expected high-octane volume.
Gibbs and the Lions open up their 2026-27 regular season on Sunday, Sept. 13 at Ford Field by welcoming in the New Orleans Saints for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff on Fox.
