The Detroit Lions (1-1) were without starting left guard Christian Mahogany (hip) and starting right tackle Blake Miller (knee) last Thursday at the Buffalo Bills (2-0).
Detroit's offense still put up 355 yards and registered 24 first downs in a 41-31 loss against the Bills from the new Highmark Stadium. But, Lions quarterback Jared Goff was sacked four times and Detroit's run game produced just 66 rushing yards as Jahmyr Gibbs was limited to 52 yards on 16 carries.
Larry Borom got the start in Miller's stead, surrendering seven hurries and a pair of sacks, per Pro Football Focus. Borom carded a 33.1 overall offensive grade from PFF against the Bills. Ben Bartch started in place of Mahogany. Per PFF, Bartch allowed six hurries and also received
a 33.1 overall offensive grade.
On Tuesday morning, Lions head coach Dan Campbell joined "Costa and Jansen" on 97.1 The Ticket. Campbell was asked if Miller is expected back this week against the New York Jets and if Miller would have gone against the Bills had the Lions' Week 2 date been a Sunday contest instead of being played on Thursday.
"Yeah, I think there's a good chance had it been Sunday he'd have played. I feel pretty good that he's trending the right way to being there, but won't know until we get him out there on the field," Campbell said of Miller.
Campbell also said that the Lions expect Mahogany to return to practice on Wednesday.
"The plan is to practice him tomorrow, so we'll where he and Miller are both at," Campbell said.
The Lions host the Jets on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
