Despite entering a Week 2 matchup at the Buffalo Bills on "Thursday Night Football" with matching 1-0 records, the Detroit Lions' abysmal defense put them behind the 8-ball too often, leading to a 41-31 loss.
Though Jared Goff finished with an impressive 327 yards and four touchdown passes, Detroit's lackluster defense (particularly in the secondary) and numerous costly penalties were too much to overcome. Those mistakes kept drives alive for quarterback Josh Allen and Buffalo's high-flying offense during several key moments throughout the night.
Allen totaled five touchdowns, passing for 248 yards and three touchdowns and running for 69 yards and two scores.
Naturally, Lions fans were far from pleased with the effort by Kelvin Sheppard's defensive
unit against Buffalo in a game where Detroit could have played spoiler to the Bills in the first-ever game at the new Highmark Stadium.
