Sunday's Lions-Vikings game provided a sobering reminder of the dangers that the game presents, and that there's more to life than football.
Lions captain and first-team All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell exited Sunday's game with a scary injury. It happened on the first play of the fourth quarter as Campbell tackled Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson.
After the play, Campbell lay face down and motionless on the Ford Field turf. Eventually, Campbell was placed on a backboard, carefully lifted, and then carted off the field. The Lions initially reported that Campbell had been transported to a local hospital where he was set to be evaluated for a neck injury.
Following the Lions' 19-15 win over the Vikings, Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell opened
his postgame press conference saying that he and the Vikings had Campbell in their thoughts and prayers.

"Alright, I'll get to our injuries, just kind of updates in a second. But, did want to start out and just mention that we're all thinking and praying for Jack Campbell. I asked Dan (Campbell) after the game if he had any update. He didn't have much of one, but definitely something that you hate seeing. Competitive, super physical NFC North game, but still hard to talk about the result when you see something like that. So, just thoughts and prayers with him for sure," O'Connell said.
It's a classy gesture that the Lions' organization and fans certainly won't forget.
The Lions announced that Campbell is resting and will remain in a local hospital overnight for continued evaluation and monitoring. The team will provide further updates as they have them.
