Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs made history in the first quarter of Sunday's matchup against the New Orleans Saints.
With less than four minutes left in the first quarter, Gibbs punched in a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Lions the first lead of the game. The score marked the first of the Lions' 2026-27 season, and it put Gibbs in elite company.

The touchdown was Gibbs' 50th of his 50-game career. The only other players to hit that mark in their first 50 games were Jim Brown, Marcus Allen, Chuck Foreman, Steve Van Buren, and Larry Johnson.
Gibbs also became the fourth player in NFL history to produce at least 40
rushing touchdowns and 10 receiving touchdowns through four-career seasons, joining Alvin Kamara, Todd Gurley, and Marcus Allen.
Gibbs got back into the end zone with a second 1-yard rushing touchdown early in the third quarter. In the process, Gibbs registered his 14th career game with multiple touchdowns. Gibbs now has 11 career games with 100-plus scrimmage yards and two touchdowns, which is tied with Billy Sims for the second-most in franchise history.
