The Miami Dolphins lost arguably their best player on Sunday in their battle with the Kansas City Chiefs at Hard Rock Stadium, as running back De'Von Achane tore his ACL just five plays into the game.
Achane will miss the rest of the season due to the injury, which forces him to finish the year with just 127 rushing yards on 3.7 yards per attempt and seven receptions for 49 yards.
Speaking with the media on Monday, Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley shared his reaction to the injury.
"Yeah, my heart breaks for the guy," Hafley said. "You talk about him as a great player, but since I've gotten to know him, watching him grow and develop, earning the captain role, becoming a leader of a team, becoming such great energy, such a great teammate. I mean,
I love his energy, I love his enthusiasm, I love his positivity. The growth from him as a person, I think all his teammates felt it and I felt it. And I'm not only going to miss him being around all the time on the field, I'm going to miss him being around because I really love the guy and enjoy him. He adds so much to our team and what he means to me.
"So my heart breaks for him, but at the same time, I know that he'll be back and he'll be back strong. And he's got a really, really, really bright future because I know how he'll work at this thing."
Achane spoke all offseason about wanting to lead the league in rushing yards and step up as a leader for this team in 2026. While he can't accomplish the first task, he can still do the second. He'll just have to lead from the sidelines and in the meeting rooms while he recovers from the injury.
