The Miami Dolphins have been hard at work to cut their roster from 91 players down to 53 over the last day and before the Sunday night deadline.

One position that they've attacked a bit has been the interior defensive line group, as they've cut Alex Huntley and Cam Riley. Now, another has joined the list of cast-off big men on defense, as the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson reported

that the Dolphins have released Matthew Butler.

Butler, 27, played at Tennessee from 2017-21 before the Las Vegas Raiders took him in the fifth round (No. 175 overall) of the 2022 NFL draft. After three years in Las Vegas, the Dolphins claimed him off waivers last year. In 12 games for Miami in 2025, he recorded 12 tackles and two quarterback hits.

In preseason this year,

Butler recorded four tackles and a half-sack in three games. But with the talent ahead of him on the roster, he had a long way to go to make it.
