The Miami Dolphins have had a rough go through the first five weeks of their 2026 campaign, going 0-5 while their opponents are outscoring them132-70.
Miami lacks talent up and down the roster, which makes it tough to evaluate the play of some players at the most important positions on the field, including quarterback. Through five weeks, Malik Willis has looked horrible, but he lost his All-Pro running back to a torn ACL, and his top wide receivers include a 2024 sixth-round pick and a trio of 2026 draft picks.
Still, if the Dolphins continue on this trajectory, they'll be picking near the top of the 2027 NFL Draft, and with a quarterback class that's considered to be strong, there's a good chance they find their new starter in the first round.
In fact, Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski recently projected that the Dolphins will land Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker with pick No. 3 overall.
"Mestemaker has arguably the best physical toolbox among next year's quarterback class," Sobleski wrote. "He's also a gamer. He presents the arm talent to attack the entire field when working inside and outside the pocket. Once his plus-level athleticism is added to the mix, he becomes a threat to break contain and make plays with his rushing ability."
Mestemaker, 20, was a zero-star recruit out of Vandegrift High School in Austin, Texas, before walking on at North Texas in 2024 and eventually taking over as the starter in 2025. In his lone year as the Mean Green starter, he led the NCAA in passing yards (4,379), earned All-Conference honors and received the American Conference Offensive Player of the Year Award.
After transferring to Oklahoma State this year, he's led the team to a 4-1 record in five starts while completing 67.5% of his passes for 1,575 yards with 13 touchdowns and five interceptions.
