The first five weeks of their 2026 campaign haven't gone the way that new Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley or any of his players or staff would've wanted, as they've yet to win a game to start the season.
Now, after the rough start, the Dolphins are off in Week 6, giving them a chance to assess the first five weeks, recover and prepare for the rest of their slate, which is still considered one of the toughest in the league.
While Miami doesn't have a game to play this weekend, there's still a way that Week 6 helps them out.
With an 0-5 record, the Dolphins aren't gunning for the playoffs. In fact, no team to lose their first five games has ever made it to the postseason. So, Miami is still looking to win games, they should be focused on their future.
At this point, they're tied with the Los Angeles Chargers and the Tennessee Titans for the worst record in the league, and if the season ended today, the Dolphins would pick third overall in the 2027 NFL Draft. With their rebuild, Miami would greatly benefit from getting the highest selection that they can, either to draft the best player available or to trade down and pick up more draft capital.
With that said, the Chargers and Jets are both in action this weekend, and if they win, Miami would move up to the top spot in the draft order as the lone winless team. That's a lot to ask, considering Tennessee is taking on the 2-3 Indianapolis Colts, and Los Angeles is taking on the 4-0 Kansas City Chiefs.
Still, it's not impossible, and with the way that the Dolphins' seaosn is going, one win for both of those teams may be too much for Miami to overcome.
