The Miami Dolphins fell to the Minnesota Vikings 15-10 on Sunday, which is an embarrassingly low output for an offense in today's game, but it was made worse by the fact that they were by a team that didn't find the end zone a single time.
Minnesota kicked five field goals to win by five, while the Dolphins scored just one touchdown, which came from running back Ollie Gordon II from 12 yards out.
However, Miami found the end zone one more time in the game on a play that was nulified by a penalty. Rookie wide receiver Chris Bell caught a ball down the right sideline that would've gone for a 68-yard score.
Unfortunately, Bell stepped out of bounds before catching the ball, which resulted in an illegal touching penalty. That made it fourth-and-4,
and Miami ultimately punted. Had Bell stayed in bounds, the Dolphins could've won the game.
After the final whistle, Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley spoke to the media about the play.
"Just guy got lost where he was on the field," Hafley said. "He's a young guy and hopefully we'll learn from it, but I mean, it was a matter of inches that he did step out and that's the difference in the game. In so many things our game is just inches here, inches there and he'll learn from it. He's a competitive dude."
Bell has flashed early in his rookie year, but he needs to know where the boundary is. He can't be taking easy points off the board for the team. This will be a learning moment for him as he continues adapting to the NFL and finding his role in South Florida.
