Earlier this month, NFL super agent Drew Rosnehaus revealed that former Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith had interest in coming back to South Florida and playing for the team again in 2026.
However, with the two sides apart on money, Smith is signing one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Miami signed Smith to a two-year, $10 million deal back in 2024 after he spent time with the Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons. He ended up playing 17 games for the Dolphins in 2024, setting career highs in receptions (88) and yards (884) and tying a career-high in touchdowns (8).
Last year, Miami traded Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers and he caught 38 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns
in 17 games.
The Dolphins have a thin tight end room with Greg Dulcich, Ben Sims, third-round pick Will Kacmarek and fifth-round pick Seydou Traore expected to make the roster, so they could've used Smith in 2026. But with Miami rebuilding, it probably didn't make much financial sense to bring him in for the season.
