The Miami Dolphins are set to travel to Paradise, Nevada this weekend for a Week 1 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.
In this game, quarterback Malik Willis will make his debut with the Dolphins after signing a three-year, $67.5 million deal with the team this offseason. This is also his first opportunity to begin a season as a team's starter.
While the Raiders are Miami's opponent this weekend, one member of Las Vegas' defense is very happy for Willis.
"(Willis) is my dog, man," cornerback Eric Stokes told reporters Wednesday. "I trained with Leek back in Atlanta. I was with him up for two years in Green Bay and all that stuff. So Leek, man, I'm overly proud for everything that he done. Because I done seen the type
of work that he put in. Especially them two, three years up in Green Bay. And then just waiting for his time and all that stuff. They didn't really gave him a fair shot in Tennessee. He worked his tail off his three years up in Green Bay
"Now he done got a shot for real again and all that stuff. And I'm just overly happy for him and I can't wait. I just pray that, I mean, pray that he don't good versus us. But versus everybody else, I pray that he do amazing and all that stuff. Because I just want to see the best for him."
Willis was Tennessee's third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Liberty. In two years with the Titans, he led the team to a 1-2 record in his starts and completed 53% of his passes for 350 yards and three interceptions.
After the Titans traded Willis to Green Bay, he led the Packers to a 2-1 record in his starts over the last two years. He completed 78.7% of his passes for 972 yards and three touchdowns while adding another 261 yards and three scores on the ground.
If Willis plays the way he did in Green Bay, the Dolphins will probably be pretty happy, and Stokes will be proud, as long as he doesn't have that success this weekend.
