Coaching football is a unique brotherhood, and very few who start in the profession make it to the pinnacle and become one of the 32 head coaches in the NFL. However, two coaches who were on the same staff several years ago will meet again as head coaches for the first time in Week 7 of the 2026 NFL season.
Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley and New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn will lead their teams into battle on Sunday in a divisional showdown that means much more than just a win or a loss.
Ahead of the game, Glenn reflected on their relationship after coaching together with the Browns over a decade ago.
"In Cleveland, he was a defensive back coach, and I ended up getting hired there as the assistant defensive back coach," Glenn explained.
"I learned quite a bit about how he operates when it comes to running the meeting, and how he operates when it comes to installing. So I learned a lot when it comes to that."
"Then we stayed close throughout these years in this coaching profession. And, man, listen, he's going to do a good job with those guys. I mean, obviously, when they play us, I don't want him to do a good job. But, listen, I know how he's built. I know he's going to get those guys. You can see it on tape. They play tough. They play hard. They play physical. I just have a lot of respect for him as a coach."
The Jets are 5-18 under Glenn, and it feels like if they don't turn things around by the end of the year, he could be out of a job, while Hafley's Dolphins are 0-6 to start the year, but he should have plenty of time given what they did this offseason.
Theoretically, New York should be the better team on Sunday, but Glenn knows the type of coach that Hafley is, and this could be an opportunity for Miami to get their first win under the new regime.
