The Miami Dolphins are cutting down their roster from 91 players to 53 this weekend to comply with the league's rules before the deadline on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. ET.
While most of these moves will likely be cuts for Miami, they've decided to make a trade on Saturday, as NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Dolphins are sending quarterback Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars. It's unclear exactly which picks are involved, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the two teams are swapping 2028 Day-3 picks.
Miami took Ewers in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL draft following a collegiate career at Ohio State and Texas, where he earned All-Conference honors twice. In three starts with the Dolphins as a rookie, he led the team to a 1-2 record
while completing 66.3% of his passes for 622 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.
While Ewers entered this offseason as the main backup, he never really took advantage of the opportunities the team gave him. Now, he'll go back up Trevor Lawrence, and the Dolphins will have to decide who will support Malik Willis.
