The Miami Dolphins made a pair of moves to their 53-man roster on Tuesday, but they also made two transactions to their practice squad as well, as they released defensive lineman Mazi Smith and signed defensive lineman Jordan Jefferson.
Smith, 25, played at Michigan from 2019-22, earning All-Big Ten honors once before the Dallas Cowboys took him in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. After 2.5 years in Dallas, the Jets traded him, and he signed with the Dolphins' practice squad this September. He's appeared in 43 games between all three teams, recording 57 tackles, six quarterback hits and two sacks. He played in just one game for Miami this year, but he didn't record a stat.
Jefferson, 25, played at West Virginia from 2019-22 and at LSU in 2023.
After the Jacksonville Jaguars took him in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, he had stints with the San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers. In 10 games, he's recorded 12 tackles, one pass defensed and one sack.
