The Miami Dolphins made several key changes to their roster this offseason, but the most important of those moves was swapping out 2020 first-round pick Tua Tagovailoa for 2022 third-round pick Malik Willis as the team's starting quarterback.
Tagovailoa found some success in Miami, but he was never able to get the team over the hump, as the Dolphins have still yet to win a postseason game since 2000. And while they hope Willis is the guy to finally put an end to that embarrassing streak, it's unlikely that they'll do that this season.
With new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley trading Jaylen Waddle and moving on from guys like Tyreek Hill and Darren Waller, Willis won't have a lot to work with, leaving everyone wondering
how he'll perform on his third team since entering the league.
Interestingly, CBS Sports recently projected Willis' stats for the upcoming season, and they believe he'll finish the year with 3.096 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
In Willis' six career starts for the Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers, he's thrown for 846 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Averaging that out over a 17-game season, it's 2,397 yards, 8.5 touchdowns and 8.5 interceptions, so CBS Sports is projecting he'll be more of the player he was in Green Bay (972 yards and six touchdowns in 11 appearances and three starts).
These projected stats would be the 24th-best season in Dolphins history in passing yards, tied for ninth-best in touchdowns and tied for the eighth-most interceptions. In fact, Geno Smith threw 17 interceptions for the Las Vegas Raiders last year and led the league.
If Willis throws 17 interceptions, Miami will likely struggle as expected in 2026, and they'll probably be looking for another quarterback next year.
