The Miami Dolphins took on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Levi's Stadium, and they fell 35-13 to drop to an 0-2 record to start Jeff Hafley's tenure in South Florida.
Miami, once again, struggled in all three phases, which led to the disappointing result in Week 2. Now, they'll take on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3 to try to end the skid.
Before we get there, let's look at some of the best and worst performances and aspects of this Dolphins' loss to the 49ers on Sunday.
STUD: Run defense
Miami's defensive front stepped up against the run this week after getting destroyed by Ashton Jeanty in Week 1. Against the 49ers, they held the trio of Christian McCaffrey, Kaelon Black and Jordan James to just 63 yards on 3.0 yards per attempt. That's
a pretty impressive performance against a strong backfield.
DUD: Pass rush
Miami didn't get to Kirk Cousins much in Week 1, and that trend continued on Sunday. The Dolphins didn't sack Brock Purdy once and only hit him twice. That's zero sacks through two weeks, and if Chop Robinson isn't on the field, there's no one who strikes fear in opposing tackles, quarterbacks or offensive coordinators.
STUD: WR Ryan Miller
In a game where one team only scored one touchdown, it's important to celebrate the one player who scored. Miller found himself open down the right sideline on a busted coverage and scored a 77-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. It was Miller and Malik Willis' first touchdown with the team.
DUD: Offensive line
Miami's big men up front have the potential to be one of the best offensive line unit in the league, but they've played very poorly through two weeks.
In the run, they only helped the trio of De'Von Achane, Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon II combine for 92 yards on 3.7 yards per carry. Willis was also under pressure all game. He was sacked four times, but he was constantly running for his life and throwing the ball away. They need to be better, especially right tackle Austin Jackson, who was abused by Nick Bosa on Sunday.
DUD: Special Teams
The coverage units were better this week after a disastrous opener, but there were still issues in the third phase of the game. Riley Patterson missed a 51-yard field goal, and Bradley Pinion fumbled a punt that set San Francisco up for an easy score. It wouldn't be surprising to see Miami bring in another kicker for a workout this week just to push Patterson.
