The Miami Dolphins have started their season with an 0-5 record, and with the team trying to get experience for their young players, they may feel compelled to move on from some expensive veterans at the upcoming NFL trade deadline.
Among those players whose futures are in the air is defensive lineman Zach Sieler, who, at 31 years old, is the tied for the second-oldest player on Miami's roster, behind Bradley Pinion and tied with Zane Gonzalez.
Speaking to the media this week, Sieler discussed the possibility of getting traded in the coming month.
"I know people say rumors or talk whatever this time of year, but I'm here focused playing games here, win as a Dolphin, man. And we're doing a great thing. I'm excited for this next week coming up and
coming off the bye ready to roll," Sieler said. "I love it here. I've been here for how long? I want to win here as a Dolphin. I think Hafley,Sully have done an amazing job here. I'm excited to see this team growing and where we're going and get some wins."
Sieler, the seventh-round pick out of Ferris State in 2018, joined the Dolphins in 2019 after a stint with the Baltimore Ravens. In eight years in Miami, he's appeared in 107 games, recording 365 tackles, 82 quarterback hits, 37.5 sacks, 16 passes defensed, six fumbles recovered, five forced fumbles and two interceptions.
At this point, Sieler is under contract through 2029, when he'll be 34 years old. His cap hit jumps from $11 million this year to $20.89 million in 2027. He then has cap hits of $23.69 million in 2028 and $23.03 million in 2029.
Trading Sieler this year would save the Dolphins $4.31 million while creating a $6.7 million dead cap hit.
