The Miami Dolphins released Tua Tagovailoa back in March and signed Malik Willis to a three-year, $67.5 million deal to take his spot as the team's starting quarterback.
However, with Willis joining the Dolphins without much starting experience (six starts in four seasons) and the team lacking talent around him, there's a strong chance that Miami struggles in 2026 and finishes with one of the worst records in the league.
Knowing that, FOX Sports' Rob Rang projected that the Dolphins will look to take a swing on a potential franchise quarterback in the first round of the 2027 NFL draft. In his new mock draft, Rang has Miami taking Oregon's Dante Moore with pick No. 2 overall.
"I’m more bullish on Malik Willis as a starting quarterback in the NFL
than the folks at DraftKings seem to be, but like the aforementioned Cardinals, it seems unlikely that Miami is going to jump in the standings given its own limitations as well as its schedule," Rang wrote. "I would love to match Willis with Ohio State’s phenomenal receiver Jeremiah Smith here, but the opportunity to land a blue-chip quarterback doesn’t come often, and Moore is certainly that. He is currently a more instinctive and accurate passer than Manning and looks like a lock at this point to be among the first two players selected next spring — even if it requires another team trading up to get him."
Moore, 21, was a five-star recruit out of Martin Luther King High School in Detroit, Michigan. While he originally committed to Oregon, he flipped to UCLA, and as a freshman, he appeared in nine games and started five. He completed 53.5% of his passes for 1,610 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
In 2023, Moore transferred to Oregon and redshirted in 2024 while backing up Dillon Gabriel. This past year, he started 15 games and led the Ducks to a 13-2 record. He completed 71.% of his passes for 3,565 yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
