While the 1972 Miami Dolphins were celebrating this weekend that the Minnesota Vikings lost their first game of the 2026 season, they also lost member of the historic roster.
According to an obituary published on Legacy, former Dolphins defensive lineman Bob Heinz died on Saturday at 79 years old.
Heinz played collegiately at Delta College and the University of the Pacific before the Dolphins took him in the second round (No. 37 overall) of the 1969 NFL Draft. He spent nine seasons with Miami, appearing in 111 games and recording nine sacks.
With Heinz on the roster, the Dolphins won two Super Bowls, including in 1972 when Miami became the first and only team to ever finish a full season without a loss on their record.
After his time with the Dolphins,
he had a one-year stint with Washington.
