After releasing defensive end Clelin Ferrell and defensive lineman Jordan Miller on Monday, the Miami Dolphins had two open spots on their practice squad, but they just filled one of them as they signed offensive lineman James Ester.
Ester spent five years at Northern Illinois from 2019-23. He recorded 121 tackles, nine sacks, six passes defensed, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception. He signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2024.
After spending two years in Green Bay on the defensive line and working with Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley, who was their defensive coordinator, he joined Miami's roster this offseason and switched to offensive line.
Ester didn't have a ton of success moving to guard,
and he was eventually waived with an injury designation. The two sides agreed to an injury settlement that made him a free agent, and now he's back on the Dolphins' practice squad.
