Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley have had a busy weekend, as the team tries to cut their roster from 91 players down to 53 by the deadline Sunday night.
While most of the moves so far have been expected, Miami made a shocking decision Sunday morning when they reportedly released linebacker Tyrel Dodson, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.
Dodson played at Texas A&M from 2016-18 before going undrafted in 2019 and signing with the Buffalo Bills. After four years in Buffalo and a short stint with the Seattle Seahawks, he landed in Miami in 2024. As a starter last year, Dodson recorded a career-high 129 tackles, five sacks, three passes defensed, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
The 27-year-old was expected to start for the Dolphins again in 2026, but this move signifies that they feel comfortable giving the job to rookie Jacob Rodriguez.
