After dropping the first two games of the season, the Miami Dolphins are ready to take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Hard Rock Stadium this weekend in a game that will be the home opener for Jeff Hafley's squad.
Kansas City has started off their season with a 2-0 record, and their offense looks incredible with Patrick Mahomes back under center and Kenneth Walker III sliding in at running back.
As we look ahead to this matchup, we spoke to Chiefs Wire lead writer John Dillon to get a better idea about Miami's Week-3 opponent.
How has Patrick Mahomes looked coming off the injury?
"Mahomes has looked fine, but still hasn't put together a performance that makes me think he's back to pre-2025 form. His re-acclimation to life under center has been made relatively easy with the emergence of Kenneth Walker
III, who signed with the Chiefs as a free agent after winning Super Bowl MVP honors with the Seattle Seahawks earlier this year. Expect Mahomes to be sharp in Week 3 but for Walker to lead Kansas City's offense." - -JD
How has the addition of Kenneth Walker III changed things for Kansas City's offense?
"Andy Reid seems content to lean on his running game for the first time in... well, maybe ever. I was a young man when he coached Brian Westbrook with the Philadelphia Eagles, and maybe don't fully appreciate the production he achieved under Reid. But Walker's introduction into the Chiefs' offense has been totally transformative, especially given Mahomes' injury situation." -- JD
Has the loss of Trent McDuffie been hard for the defense to overcome?
"It remains to be seen if Mansoor Delane will be a one-for-one replacement for McDuffie in Kansas City's secondary, but early indications are that the Chiefs will be just fine without the former Washington Husky. I think the trade that sent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams was a wash in terms of value, and that both sides (McDuffie and the Chiefs) benefitted from a mutual parting of ways." -- JD
Who is one under-the-radar play that Dolphins fans should key-in on in Week 3?
"Rookie running back Emmett Johnson has been really impressive for Kansas City in limited action and will step onto the field when Kenneth Walker III needs a rest. A former Nebraska Cornhusker, Johnson has excellent vision and some pretty unbelievable agility. He isn't the fastest running back I've ever watched (maybe too young to fully appreciate Brian Westbrook but definitely watched Jamaal Charles' prime) but what he lacks in footspeed he makes up for in ability to make tacklers miss and fight for extra yardage." -- JD
Who wins this game and why?
"The Chiefs always seem to lose silly games and this Week 3 matchup feels like a trap for this Kansas City squad that is riding high after wins over the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts. I suspect that this game will come down to whether the Chiefs can establish their now-prolific ground game, and if Miami's offense can find a rhythm against Kansas City's rapidly-developing young secondary. Expect this game to be closer than it should be, because Andy Reid likes to play with his food sometimes. Final score: Chiefs 26, Dolphins 23" -- JD
