The Atlanta Falcons have filled out the majority of their practice squad with several players who were on their 90-man training camp roster, but not everyone returned. Former Falcons running back Nathan Carter landed with the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad on Tuesday.
Carter, an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State, signed with Atlanta following the 2025 NFL Draft. He made the team out of training camp and appeared in seven games last season. Carter rushed nine times for 60 yards for the Falcons season but played mostly on special teams.
The second-year running back has some kick-return ability as well, which should help his chances of eventually making the Chiefs' 53-man roster. Carter had a few key blunders in the 2026 preseason that
likely hurt his chances of returning, but he has some promise that Andy Reid will attempt to unlock in Kansas City.
However, the Falcons only kept two running backs on their 53-man roster. And as good as Bijan Robinson is, many were confused to see the team release veteran running back Tyler Goodson at the cut deadline. Goodson more than earned the right to be the team's third running back in training camp.
The former Colt outperformed Brian Robinson Jr. in the preseason and should arguably be in the mix for the No. 2 spot behind Bijan. Atlanta kept four quarterbacks on its initial 53-man roster, which is more confusing than anything.
We'll have to wait and see what happens, though. After all, there's still nearly two weeks until Atlanta's season opener against the Pittburgh Steelers.
