A lot of interesting stories can slip through the cracks on the first Sunday of the season. It seems one involving Atlanta Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski came out just before kickoff with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
According to NFL insider James Palmer, Stefanski turned down an offer to coach the Tennessee Titans this past offseason, picking the Falcons instead.
"Kevin Stefanski was in the running for the Titans job," reported Palmer. "There he had the franchise QB in Cam Ward. He picked Atlanta, where the roster has fewer questions and great skill players. This year is about finding out if the franchise QB is on the roster or the 2027 draft."

Atlanta was one of 10 teams looking for a head coach last season, and while the Falcons' 2026 debut was dismal, Stefanski made the right choice.
Under former head coach Mike Vrabel the Titans had an impressive run for a while, but since his exit and letting Derrick Henry leave. they have consistently been one of the worst teams in the AFC. Tennessee has won just 12 games total over the last three years and finished last in the AFC South all three times. This year, they opened the season with an embarrassing loss at home to the punchline New York Jets.
Then again, the Titans have one thing the Falcons don't - in Cam Ward they have found their franchise quarterback. If they can build around him Tennessee may soon be in a better spot than Atlanta.
