The Chicago Bears signed former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Scotty Miller to their practice earlier this week. The former sixth-round pick spent his first four NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before signing with the Falcons in 2023.
Miller finished that season with 11 catches for 161 yards and two touchdowns, while chipping in as a return man on occasion. The veteran wideout didn't exactly put up big numbers during his one-year stint in Atlanta, but the team's passing attack was abysmal at the time.
Former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith played musical chairs with quarterbacks Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke all year long, and the results weren't pretty. Atlanta finished the 2023 season with 3,775 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and 17 interceptions
for a team passer rating of 80.5.
Smith was fired after the Falcons' ugly loss to the Saints in the 2023 NFL season finale. Ridder, Heinicke and Miller also did not return in 2024. Miller and Smith quickly rejoined forces with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where they each spent the last two seasons.
The Bears signed Miller as a free agent over the offseason but waived him at the roster cut deadline. The 29-year-old now returns to Chicago for his second practice squad stint of the season.
For his career, Miller has recorded 99 catches for 1,216 receiving yards and six touchdowns since entering the league as a sixth-round pick out of Bowling Green.
