The Miami Dolphins are signing one former Atlanta Falcons kicker to replace another on their 53-man roster ahead of NFL Week 7. The Dolphins released Riley Patterson on Tuesday, and according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, they will sign veteran Zane Gonzalez in a corresponding move.
Both Patterson and Gonzalez previously played for the Falcons. Patterson started three games in place of an injured Younghoe Koo late in the 2024 NFL season, going 12/12 on extra points and making 4/7 field goal attempts.
The 27-year-old missed a potential game-winning field goal for the Falcons in their Week 17 loss to the Commanders that season. The Falcons went back to Younghoe Koo to begin the 2025 season, but after missing a potential game-tying field goal in Week 1,
the team replaced him with veteran Parker Romo for seven games.
After Romo began to struggle in the middle of the season, the Falcons signed Gonzalez, who stabilized the kicker position for the final nine games. Gonzalez was not re-signed by the Falcons, and later signed with the Miami Dolphins in free agency.
Gonzalez was injured and later waived by Miami in August. Now that he's healthy, Gonzalez will look to take advantage of his chance with the Dolphins.

As for the Falcons, they signed veteran Nick Folk in free agency. Folk was the most accurate kicker in the NFL last season, but he has converted just 9/12 field goals thus far in 2026.
