What could have been a break-through year for the Atlanta Falcons and their young edge rusher rotation suffered a devastating blow this week when second-year outside linebacker Jalon Walker suffered a season-ending ACL tear.
With James Pearce facing a potentially-lengthy suspension by the NFL, that means Atlanta will likely begin the season without either one of their starting edge defenders.
It's an opportunity for Bralen Trice and a quartet of free agents that the Falcons brought in this offseason, but an undeniable tragedy for Walker and his career.
For what it's worth, everyone who's coached Walker believes he will bounce back. His former Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said as much earlier this week, and Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski echoed
that sentiment this morning.
"To see Jalon go down is frustrating and disappointing for him, but I know what he's made of and he will bounce back."
Falcons HC Kevin Stefanski says of the Jalon Walker injury: "Injuries are the worst part of our game."

Coming back from an ACL tear is one of the most-difficult things any athlete can do - but on the positive side Walker is still just 22 years old. He also has experience to draw from in the form of Falcons quarterback Michael Penix, who's currently making his way back from the third ACL tear of his career.
Walker should be ready to go at the start of the 2027 season. Perhaps the Falcons will finally be ready to contend by then, if they can find a solution to their long-running quarterback problem.
