The Atlanta Falcons blew an eight-point lead against the Baltimore Ravens late and lost their starting quarterback in the process. Michael Penix Jr. took a big shot to the ribs and was replaced by Tua Tagovailoa in overtime of Sunday's 30-23 loss.
Tagovailoa was intercepted by Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton, ending the game on his third pass attempt. Just like that, the Falcons have come crumbling back to earth in the worst way possible. Penix was officially listed questionable to return and did come back in the game for one play.
However, the Falcons decided to shut him down and give Tagovailoa the ball overtime. It was an otherwise great showing for Penix, who completed 19/32 pass attempts for 240 yards one touchdown and a passer rating of 93.2.
We'll have to wait and see what head coach Kevin Stefanski says after the game, but it didn't appear to be too serious of an injury. Penix did not go into the medical tent, so there's still some mystery as to why he entered the game and then left one play later.
