The Atlanta Falcons have become unrecognizably competent ever since quarterback Michael Penix Jr. returned in Week 3. After stunning the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football, Penix led the Falcons to a 45-24 win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 4.
Atlanta's offense had another monster outing on Monday night. Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr. combined for 207 yards, while Penix was rock-solid for all four quarters. The third-year quarterback went 15/20 for 223 yards, one touchdown and a passer rating of 127.7 in his first time facing the Saints.
Obviously, the running game helps a lot, but Penix's presence cannot be overlooked. Many attempted to write off the former first-round pick after his third career ACL injury, but Penix is far
too resilient for that.
After Monday's win, Penix took a moment to say how grateful he was to finally be healthy and playing football again.
"I'm just so thankful to be able to be healthy," said Penix. "So thankful to be able to come out here and play the game that I love. It's been awesome, it's been amazing. Big shout out to the offensive line. I think Brian Robinson had three, Bijan had two touchdowns. Man, just a hell of a game by those guys."
Penix also credited the coaching staff for having a great game plan and the team's attention to detail.
"Just being together as a team and just trusting in everything that we're doing week in and week out. Trusting in the game plan. Just really toning in and locking in on everything - all the small details, especially when you coming into a hostile environment like this, you know, communication is key so for us to be able to execute the way we did it just shows how great our coaching is, how great our team is and just how much we love each other."
The Falcons will attempt to go 3-0 in prime time when they face the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football in Week 5. As long as Penix is at QB, Atlanta has a chance.
