The Atlanta Falcons made a handful of roster moves before their first training camp practice on Wednesday morning. With injuries at quarterback, the team signed veteran Cooper Rush and released Trevor Siemian. That wasn't all, though.
The Falcons placed offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor, defensive back Billy Bowman Jr., linebacker DeAngelo Malone and linebacker Troy Andersen on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to begin camp. The team also placed defensive lineman Zach Harrison and rookie Anterio Thompson on the non-football injury (NFI) list.
Taylor's status is arguably the biggest concern of the bunch. The former Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman was signed to replace Kaleb McGary at right tackle following his retirement in April.
Bowman is still working his way back from an Achilles injury he suffered in practice last season.
Players on the PUP and NFI lists still technically count against the 90-man roster during training camp, so don't expect any corresponding transactions.
The Falcons did not clear Michael Penix Jr. for contact and won't have Tua Tagovailoa (undisclosed injury) for the start of camp. That means it will be undrafted rookie Jack Strand and Rush taking reps in 11-on-11 drills to begin camp.
