The Atlanta Falcons are preparing to face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, but it doesn't look like quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is going to play. Tagovailoa missed Week 1 due to an oblique injury and has now sat out back to back days ahead of Week 2.
The veteran quarterback was nowhere to be seen at Thursday's practice, according to team reporters. Head coach Kevin Stefanski provided an update on Wednesday but wouldn't name a starter for Sunday's game.
"We don't have a quarterback yet for this week," said Stefanski. "We're working through it. I'm not ruling anyone out. Tua is not going to practice today, but he's getting better. Cooper and Mike will practice today, so we will work through it."
Michael Penix Jr. was a full participant for the second
day in a row, along with backup quarterback Cooper Rush. Stefanski also left the door open to play undrafted rookie Jack Strand against the Panthers.
“Jack is not being ruled out for this game," Stefasnki respoded when asked about Strand. "With every player, I’m trying to make decisions that put them in the best position to succeed, and certainly with the quarterback position, that should be obvious."
