Perhaps the most frustrating thing about the Atlanta Falcons' ongoing dumpster fire at quarterback is that it's wasting the prime years of some very special skill players - especially fourth-year stud Bijan Robinson.
Atlanta's superstar running back just passed Devonta Freeman on the franchise's all-time rushing list, and at the same time Robinson was so dominant in Week 1 that he came close to beating a fiendish 40-year NFL record set by Rams legend Eric Dickerson. Kevin Patra at NFL.com has the details.
"Bijan Robinson generated 173 scrimmage yards, including 90 receiving yards, most among all RBs through Sunday. Robinson accounted for 65.8% of the Falcons' yards from scrimmage in Week 1, the highest share by any player in a team's season opener
since Rams RB Eric Dickerson (66.6%) in 1986."
Dickerson went on to make six Pro Bowl teams, earn five first-team All-Pro honors and eventually made the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Along the way, Dickerson won multiple Offensive Player of the Year awards and made the Hall of Fame all 80's team. He appeared in seven career playoff games, averaging over 100 yards in those contests and scoring three touchdowns.
The only thing missing from Dickerson's resume was a Super Bowl win - and right now it looks like Bijan Robinson's career path is on a similar trajectory. Somebody needs to find the final piece of the puzzle and give Robinson, Drake London and the rest of the gang a legitimate chance to win a ring.
