The Atlanta Falcons' 35-14 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 3 was everything they could have hoped for. Michael Penix Jr. made his much-anticipated return, and despite looking a little rusty on his first two drives, he quickly turned things around.
After hitting just one of his first five pass attempts, including an interception to safety Xavier McKinney, Penix loosened up and let it fly for the final three quarters. The third-year QB went 18/25 for 259 yards, one touchdown and one interception for a passer rating 101.4 in is return.
He had some help from Bijan Robinson, who added 194 rushing yards to open up those throwing lanes. Penix heaped praise on all of his teammates in his post-game interview, especially shouting out the offensive
line and running game.
"Obviously, the run game," said Penix. "I wanna shout out the O-line. My O-line played a hell of a game. Bijan, like unreal. Brian Robinson - unreal. Man, those boys played their tails off and those things opened up on the back end as well."
Penix also expressed regret over his opening-drive interception.
"I want that back. You know, I felt like the read was okay. I've just got to put the ball on my receiver instead of leading him with a good safety like Xavier McKinney over there making a play."
Falcons fans can certainly live with it after a historic night in which Penix became the fastest player in franchise history to reach 3,000 career passing yards.
