Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is dealing with a rib injury but it sounds like he has a good chance to play this weekend against the Chicago Bears. On Wednesday, head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Penix would practice as a limited participant to begin the week.
"Injury front wise, Mike will practice," said Stefanski. "He'll be limited in some fashion. We'll see how he's feeling and have communication with him to see how many reps we'll take off so that's to be determined."
Stefanski declined to comment on the specifics of the rib injury but said Penix was "feeling better."
The Falcons quarterback isn't the only one dealing with an injury. Edge rusher Za'Darius Smith and cornerback C.J. Henderson will both be out for Wednesday's
practice.
"Za'Darius is working back from the neck injury," explained Stefanski. "Similarly, we'll see how this goes over the next few days and see how he's feeling. Same with CJ Henderson, another guy who will not practice today but we'll see how it shakes out."
Atlanta has a big challenge ahead with the Bears coming to town. Chicago is 3-2 despite not having quarterback Caleb Williams for the last two weeks. Stefanski knows his team has its work cut out going into Sunday's game.
"Bears week - like I said, it's an excellent football team. Ton of respect for what Ben has done there. His coordinators. Really, really really well-coached football team... So it's a huge challenge for a out football team."
As for Williams, the former No. 1 overall pick was listed as a full participant on Wednesday. Check back this afternoon for the full injury report.
