New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown has opened up about returning to the practice field for the first time on Wednesday after spending the last four weeks on injured reserve.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Brown said it felt good to return to the practice field Wednesday for the first time, which marked a significant step toward his potential return. However, his status for Sunday's Week 6 game against the New York Jets remains up in the air.
"It's still up in the air. Obviously it'll be Coach Vrabel's decision," Brown said, via Patriots Wire's Sophie Weller.
Brown suffered an ankle injury during New England’s season-opening loss to the Seattle Seahawks on September 9. He recorded three catches for 26 yards before leaving the game
and subsequently missed the Patriots’ next four contests.
The veteran Brown entered the season coming off of a year in 2025 where he recorded 78 receptions for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns, demonstrating the production that the Patriots hope to regain with his return.
New England, which improved to 3-2 following its second consecutive victory against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5, will host the Jets this week. The AFC East matchup presents an opportunity for the Patriots to strengthen their divisional position while potentially reintegrating their top receiver into the mix.
Brown’s availability remains uncertain, but his return is expected to provide quarterback Drake Maye with the team’s main offensive weapon in its bid for a third straight win.
