FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Things were mostly peaceful between the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles, but there was one moment when some pushing and shoving broke out during a live field-goal session. And head coach Mike Vrabel was quick to make sure it didn't progress.
Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was right in the middle of it. And for Milton Williams, who played with Carter during his time in Philadelphia, he wasn't surprised to see No. 98 involved.
“It didn’t surprise me at all,” Williams said. “Then I looked over there and saw some Eagles green, and I knew exactly who that was, so that didn’t surprise me, either. But it’s all good. It’s all good fun, good competition. It’s hot out here. We’re competing. That’s going to happen sometimes.”
As for Vrabel, he jumped right in to break it up.
“He still thinks he can get out there and play,” Williams joked of his head coach. “He still wants to, all that. He’s still talking noise every single day, pushing guys. That’s what makes him, him, and guys are going to continue to get better with him as their coach.”
Last year, Vrabel made quite the first impression on the team, jumping in the middle of a scrum that resulted in a pile. He was at the bottom, and when he emerged, he had a cut on his cheek and was bleeding. This year didn't go that far.
“That’s Vrabel,” Gabe Jacas added. "He’s that type of coach to get in a scrap, and he’s a hands-on coach, so I didn’t expect any less.”
