The New England Patriots just got A.J. Brown back on the field against the New York Jets, and it only took two drives for them to lose Romeo Doubs.
On Monday, the team announced that they are placing Doubs on injured reserve after the injury he sustained in Sunday's win. Maye found Doubs in the end zone on a 42-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. The veteran receiver laid out for the diving catch but struggled to get to his feet after the play.
Instead, he remained down on the ground, clutching at his shoulder in clear discomfort. He was initially deemed questionable to return before officially being ruled out for the game.
It's a tough blow for a Patriots team that has faced a relentless onslaught of injuries early in the season. Along with
losing Doubs, they also lost three starting offensive linemen—Morgan Moses, Alijah Vera-Tucker and Ben Brown—against the Jets.
The team is already playing without veteran receiver Mack Hollins, who is also on injured reserve.
With Doubs gone for at least four games, if not longer, the team will have to lean on Brown, DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism III to carry the offense. The team also has two capable receiving tight ends with Hunter Henry and Eli Raridon.
Running backs Rhamondre Steveson and TreVeyon Henderson will probably also factor in as well.
