The New England Patriots have released punter Bryce Baringer, with head coach Mike Vrabel viewing the decision as being a difficult move that was intended to benefit both sides.
According to Patriots Wire’s Sophie Weller, Vrabel commended Baringer on Monday for helping the team during his tenure in New England and detailed the tough nature of the decision that the franchise made to cut him.
“Appreciate what Bryce has been able to do for us,” Vrabel said. “I think just that was those are tough decisions. I don't think those are things that you necessarily take lightly... We just felt like this was best for us and best for Bryce and give him an opportunity to kind of go punt and see if somebody needs a punter.”
Baringer has yet to play in a game
in 2026. During his NFL career, he has recorded 219 punts for 10,500 yards, at an average of 47.9 yards per punt with 90 punts having landed inside opponents’ 20-yard line.
The Patriots selected Baringer in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Michigan State. He spent his entire NFL career in New England, appearing in 51 regular-season games from 2023-25.
This release gives the veteran punter a chance to pursue another NFL opportunity as teams evaluate their special-teams personnel.
