New England Patriots safety Kevin Byard opened up about the tough realities of the NFL trade deadline.
Byard has been through the experience before, when the Tennessee Titans traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles back in 2023. He moved to the Chicago Bears and eventually to the Patriots via free agency, but the uncertainties ahead of the trade deadline still linger, as they do for many NFL players.
“I think it’s emotionally draining because a lot of times you don’t really hear anything," Byard said on NBC Sports Boston's Arbella Early Edition. "You don’t hear anything from your agent because I think of a lot of times, if there is something kinda going on behind the scenes, your agent maybe don’t wanna jump the gun and call you and kinda worry
you with any type of news. And sometimes you’re seeing it just like we all are — on social media. You’re seeing it through these different channels. So it can be very tough and draining.”
Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore and even cornerback Carlton Davis III have been mentioned in trade rumors leading up to the November 10 deadline. ESPN's Mike Reiss is skeptical that a move would actually be made.
However, Byard's comments add rare insight into what the situation might be like behind the scenes for the players involved. There's a human aspect to the process as well that involves real-life changes for the players and their families.
That's the part that gets lost sometimes.
