New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel was critical of Jared Wilson after the team’s 20-3 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2.
According to Patriots Wire's Sophie Weller, Vrabel stated to reporters at a press conference on Monday that he felt as though Wilson was capable of playing better against the Steelers.
"I think Jared, that wasn’t one of Jared's better games yesterday," Vrabel said. "There were some times where we have to hold up in the middle and pass rush, but I also know that sometimes, when we break those runs and he’s at the second level and getting guys covered up, that he’s at the point of those attacks as well. So, I think he can protect better. I know he can protect better. I’ve seen him protect better. But they also had
a lot of really good, nice blocks when we ran the football, broke through there and were able to get to the second level."
Wilson was given a 51.3 overall grade by Pro Football Focus for his performance in the win. He did have a great block early in the game that helped New England clear the lane for TreVeyon Henderson’s huge 39-yard touchdown. But overall, he played at a level that he might want to elevate in the weeks to come.
In all, Wilson has had a solid start to the season, taking into account his play from Week 1. He has yet to allow a single sack or hit this season, but he has allowed four total pressures this year.
