The New England Patriots announced multiple roster moves on Saturday ahead of their Week 5 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders.
There wasn't much in the way of good news except the fact that the team is activating special teams ace Brenden Schooler to the roster for the first time this season.
And for the bad news, the Patriots also announced that they are placing wide receiver Mack Hollins and fullback Reggie Gilliam on injured reserve. That ensures that both players will miss at least four games before they are eligible to return.
Losing Hollins for an extended period of time is a blow to the offense, considering he was quarterback Drake Maye's most trusted deep threat with A.J. Brown on IR with an ankle injury. Brown will be eligible to come
off IR next week, but there are no guarantees that he'll be ready to return to game action.
With Gilliam out, the team could bring in another fullback at some point, but for the time being, they will likely get creative at the position by using a tight end. The growing list of injuries for the Patriots has been absurd through the first five weeks of the season.
They also announced that they are elevating cornerback Kindle Vildor from the practice squad with Christian Gonzalez, Carlton Davis III, Karon Prunty and Channing Canada out for Sunday's game.
Calling the Patriots shorthanded at this point would be an understatement.
