New England Patriots defensive tackle Milton Williams has a message for the doubters following the Patriots' 13-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. More specifically, he has a message for those who doubt his quarterback, Drake Maye.
Maye had an ugly performance in the opener, throwing for 170 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. The Patriots offense couldn't get anything going on the road against an elite Seahawks defense. It was a disappointing loss against the Super Bowl champions without Sam Darnold at quarterback for most of the game.
Some have already started to hit the panic button on Maye as a quarterback. However, Williams is not buying into any of the doubt, as hetold Jones & Keefe.
"I guess y'all ain't watched football last year
and see what he was capable of doing. Like I said, I don't think nobody played as good as they wanted to, including me. You can put the loss on me," Williams said. "You know, I didn't play as good as I wanted to and affect the game as much as I wanted to.
"So, it's not all on one person. We got 53 guys, active to go out there and try to help this team win. And it's never going to be on one person. I don't care if you want to do five, six interceptions. We got to figure out a way to create turnovers, get the offense back the ball and let them try again."
There is still a long way to go in the season and a lot more football to be played. With that said, Maye's performance did not inspire a ton of confidence for a team looking to make it back to the Super Bowl.
The Patriots will need a greater sense of urgency from their young gunslinger in Sunday's Week 2 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
